The 25mm bearing is narrower, so the 2008-up wheel portion that holds the bearing is cut 5mm less deep on both sides on a 2008-up wheel, vs a 2000-2007 wheel. To use a 2008-up wheel on a 2007 and older bike, you'd have to maching 5mm from each side, to seat the bearing deeper.
